At Percy, we're building new ways to connect talented professionals with meaningful career opportunities at leading companies in the multifamily industry. We're currently seeking a Maintenance Technician to support a newer 75+ unit apartment building in Newark, NJ.

This role is ideal for a reliable, hands-on generalist who can handle day-to-day residential work orders across electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting. The headline perk is a rent-free on-site apartment after your first 30 days, plus a steady weekday schedule and real support onsite, including a porter for cleaning and nearby maintenance leadership available for backup when needed.

Responsibilities

• Complete daily work orders across electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting in occupied apartments and common areas

• Serve as the primary on-call technician for after-hours maintenance needs

• Use Yardi to receive, document, and close out work orders

• Support basic grounds and seasonal needs, including shoveling and salting walkways during snow events

• Coordinate with onsite support staff and neighboring building teams when larger issues arise

Qualifications

• Around 5 years of hands-on maintenance experience (multifamily, residential, facilities, handyman, student housing, or similar)

• Comfortable troubleshooting and diagnosing issues independently, not just following step-by-step instructions

• Willing to use Yardi or similar software for mobile work orders (no paper-only workflows)

• Able to live onsite and start in a rent-free apartment after a 30-day introductory period

• Able to meet the physical demands of the role, including snow removal as needed

Perks

• Total compensation range of approximately $43,000 to $43,700 annually (based on $21/hour, plus rent-free housing after 30 days; no bonus information provided)
